Brooke Echnat is a freelance director, actor, and theater educator based in Pittsburgh, PA.

As a director, Brooke specializes in curating immersive experiences, developing new work, and creating community-centered art. Her work aims to give audiences opportunities to explore innovative and captivating worlds and reconnect with their childhood sense of curiosity, imagination, and play.

CURRENT HAPPENINGS

  • FROZEN KIDS

    In April, Brooke directed Frozen Kids for The Woodlands Foundation, an organization that works with students with varying disabilities and chronic illnesses. This production marked the first time The Woodlands has produced a full scripted production. Frozen Kids was also supported by City Theatre.

  • MAC BETH

    Vigilance Theater Group presents Erica Schmidt’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Mac Beth. Directed by Ingrid Sonnichsen and Assistant Directed by Brooke Echnat.

    After school, seven teenage girls convene in an abandoned lot to perform a play. They drop their backpacks, transform their uniforms, and dive into a DIY retelling of Macbeth. As the girls conjure kings, warriors, and witches, Shakespeare’s bloody tale seeps into their reality. MAC BETH recontextualizes a classic text to expose the ferocity of adolescence and the intoxicating power of collective fantasy.
